The
padded railing for a poker table
There are a couple of ways to go here. The quick and easy way is to
use the pre-cut padded railing, which you can purchase through a casino
supply store such as Casinosupply.com. This will be pre-cut to fit a
¾" piece of plywood including the thickness of the foam
padding and casino felt you just installed. The other way to go is to
self-install or have a professional upholsterer install a custom upholstered
padded railing, which will be custom made to fit your individual table
dimensions. A custom Naugahyde padded railing makes for a very distinctive
finishing touch. Nonetheless, attempting to custom upholster a circular
railing for the first time and have it come out looking professional
and not homemade is a very difficult and trying task.
I'll be honest. I am not a professional upholsterer by any stretch
of the imagination, but I can upholsterer my own tables pretty well
at this point. There is definitely a learning curve to overcome on the
first couple of attempts (and these plans should definitely help), but
it gets easier with practice. Another viable alternative is to gather
all of the necessary materials and then hire out just the upholstering
piece, which should set you back about $75. When I don’t have
time myself, I still use this option at times. If you’re the adventurous
type, by all means give it a go yourself. Consider this fair warning
though, and don’t get overly distraught if something goes wrong
and you end up having to buy a 2nd piece of Naugahyde.
