Poker Player Bio:
The more
you watch professional poker, the more it seems like one big
masquerade party. Chris “Jesus” Ferguson is no exception.
His costume is that of the old west cowboy with a dark hat –
kind of the Wild Bill Hickok of professional poker. Chris Ferguson
jumped into the professional poker spotlight in 2000 with his
World Series of Poker Championship win earning him a cool million
and a half. He took down T.J. Cloutier, an old school player,
in the final showdown. Soon enough, everyone knew the only thing
old school about Chris was the hat.
Quite contrary
to his costume, Chris Ferguson approaches poker from a purely
intellectual viewpoint. With a PhD in Computer Science specializing
in Artificial Intelligence from UCLA and parents who are both
academic heavyweights, Chris is far from the shoot from the
hip, instinctive “cowboy” poker image his get-up
tries to convey. And that’s the way he likes it. Like
war, poker is largely about misinformation, so every last detail
helps.
Unlike most
poker professionals, poker is only one of three pursuits in
Chris Ferguson’s life. In addition to poker, Chris fosters
his academic interest in Artificial Intelligence, as well as
his interest in (of all things for a poker player who dresses
in black) ballroom dancing. He’s not your typical obsessed
poker pro, which is likely why he’s considered one of
the more congenial pro players out there.
