Company Milestones

September 2003 was founded by Stephan Aarstol in San Diego, California in the fall of 2003 to address the severely underserved market for high-end poker chips.

Opened for Business

Introduced our first high-end clay poker chip, the Vintage Vegas line. It was an instant success. Sales outpaced production capacity after only a month and there was a 2-4 month waiting list for the first six months following its introduction.

Partnered with Mark Brandt, a woodworker and poker enthusiast, to develop a comprehensive e-Book on how to build high-quality poker tables. Sales were brisk, and knock-offs showed up within a few months. We made this freely available about a year later.


April 2004 Developed our first proprietary clay poker chip mold, the Courts & Numerals mold, in cooperation with one of the most prominent families in Las Vegas chip making over the last half century.
May 2004



June 2004

Launched the Modern Clay poker chip line, developed on the Courts & Numerals mold. With the introduction of this line, our production capabilities finally caught up to demand. We cured the waiting list problem.

Published a comprehensive online image index of casino chips currently in play at the top 40 casinos in Las Vegas. This was done to alleviate consumer confusion over what “real casino chips” were like.


July 2004 Expanded the breadth of our product selection by adding our first high-end ceramic casino chip, the Archetype line.
August 2004



September 2004 Introduced our first high-end poker table, the Monolith, produced by the same company that outfits the World Series of Poker and most of the prominent televised poker shows.
October 2004

Opened a retail outlet at the Pangaea Outpost in Pacific Beach, San Diego.


December 2004

Changed our official company name and brand from to Sidepot Gaming Company.

Introduced our first “mid-range” poker chip, the Neophyte line, to address a more price sensitive segment of the customer base that we were attracting.


January 2005

Expanded the customer base we served to include over 30 countries worldwide.


February 2005

Archetype line selected by ClearVision Technologies to be used as the chip images in their DealMaster 2.0 dealer training software.


March 2005

Sidepot offices relocated from San Diego to Bellingham (above Seattle, WA).


April 2005 San Diego retail location closed down due to company relocation.

Developed the innovative Cigar & Snifter mold, a unique smooth clay poker chip mold, to wide acclaim within the poker chip aficionado community.

Crossed $1 Million sales revenue milestone.

In a continued effort to drive the high-end poker chip market forward, we introduced the innovative pre-oiled clay poker chip, the InPlay Clay line, on the Cigar & Snifter mold.

Introduced the cost effective Epiphany custom ceramic chips, a 2nd tier ceramic poker chip in terms of quality, but at 1/3rd the price of other high-end customized poker chips.

In cooperation with the leading online community for poker chip aficionados Sidepot launched a ceramic chip design contest (dubbed the Epiphany contest).


March 2007 Commissioned the development of an online application to design ceramic poker chips from a palette of 80 colors and a dozen chip track and rolling edge designs.

Unveiled the Paradise mold, the first proprietary Paulson mold for the home market (to be used exclusively for Sidepot Gaming chips).
