Poker table felt

If you have ever seen burgundy felt on a gaming table, you know why I love it and use it all the time. Burgundy might be a good choice to set your table apart from the everyday green gaming table, and it’s about the same price. Of course, green works as well, and is standard in most casinos. Once you have decided on color, it's time to start having some fun installing your table felt. I recommend installing the felt with the tabletop upright. I don't like to have the table upside down because it may hurt the foam and you can't see if there are wrinkles forming.

Make sure you have enough over lap to roll it up a couple of times for stapling. A little experimentation might be necessary. In general, you want enough material folded over so that the staple can get a good bite.

Start with one of the long sides and secure it well. Work you way around the table by pulling the material tight and stapling as you go. Pull it tight enough so that when you run your hand over it, no material wrinkles in front of your hand. Take frequent breaks as this does a number on your hands. Don’t rush this part. You don’t want felt that bunches up.

Don't skimp on the staples (See Figure 12.2). The more secure you make this, the tighter the top will be. Have some scissors handy to cut off excess felt as needed, but don't cut the felt too close to the edge. Remember, you still have the padded railing to put on. You’ll also need a hammer to tap the staples in just a bit, as the staple gun doesn’t always sink them.
